S - Keep your paddle up at the NVZ line. Move as soon as you know where the ball is going
E - You're staying in the transition zone when it is safe to move to the NVZ line. Remember, as soon as it's safe, move up to the NVZ line. This is where the points are won. Take a smaller backswing at the baseline and no backswing at the NVZ line. You drop your paddle while in ready position. This causes you to pop up balls when they are hit to you. Keep your paddle up at 10 oclock, knees slightly bent, facing the player hitting the ball. Watch your partner and the shot they hit. Assess if it's a good drop or lob and move up, or a drop that is too high or lob that is too short and move back. If it's a drive, assess the speed and your opponents ability to handle a drive and move up, stay put, or move back as necessary. Your arm is locked and stiff when you drive and serve. it should be more relaxed and you can bend at the elbow joint to get a whipping like action. I can demonstrate all of this at our next lesson. I'll be gone Nov 23-30.
R - Aim for 12-18" in from the side lines. Don't aim for the sideline. Give yourself a margin for error.
V - Let's work on: Overhead smash. This is an advanced shot so don't worry if you haven't mastered it, but I can show you how to correct it. Deciding when to volley and letting it bounce. Serving. Knees should not be bent as much.

Don't attack balls too far to the side or behind you. Hit into the middle of the court
Forehand, contact balls more in front, not to the side of your body
Move to the ball quickly, as soon as you determine where it's going and if you are going to volley or hit off the bounce
Learn the punch, block, roll volley. This will prevent your pop ups.
Work on your footwork by watching and practicing what is taught in these videos: Basic NVZ line footwork. Once you are comfortable with the shuffle step, progress to Intermediate and Advanced NVZ line footwork.
When your opponent is one up and one back, hit to the player in back and aim at their feet.
